Accelerated Coursework - Terms

MPS offers the prestigious the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, as well as College in Schools (CIS), Career and Technical Education, advanced World Language programs and Advanced Placement (AP) coursework to support our students educational growth.

The following athletics are provided at MPS high schools.

Expanded School Options

In an effort to provide an integrated learning environment, families who live in elementary school attendance areas 1B and 1C in north Minneapolis (north of Olson Memorial Highway, south of Dowling and west of the Mississippi River) and qualify for free/reduced priced lunch may request to attend Southwest High School and receive transportation

Non-Public Students

Students attending private or parochial schools should contact the Non-Public Guidance Office at 612.668.0812 for assistance with the high school transition process.

Northside Achievement Zone

Minneapolis Public Schools and the Northside Achievement Zone (NAZ) are partnering together to provide a connected stream of effective supports that will accelerate outcomes for students.

Planning for a Career & College

Every MPS high school has a Career & College Center to help students live the life of their dreams beyond high school, whether by earning a certificate from a technical school, pursuing higher education or entering a career.

Special Education

MPS staff members are experts at helping students with unique challenges. We offer our students and families a wide range of special education programs and services.

Transitioning to High School

Once in high school, ninth-grade students will have many new opportunities. You will have a wider variety of classes to choose from, your choices for extracurricular opportunities will expand and you can create an academic plan that will help you reach your educational and career goals
